Here’s a special note from Veronica:
Size Matters, and if you think it doesn’t,
then you have not been reading, watching T.V., shopping, or been
around other people lately. Size matters when colleges and universities
are not getting students enrolled because they refuse to pay attention
to the cry that you can hear all over the country…"I
would love to take college/university courses, but I just can’t
fit in those seats." Size matters when children are branded
for life because they are being teased and taunted day after day
at school growing up never recovering; Size matters are important
to you and they are important to me. So when doesn’t size
matter? I never just doesn’t matter.
I thought it was necessary to write this message to the many
people who place such high value on size and weight, appearance,
body image, and good looks. I truly believe that if we could all
"make our selves over" we would be what we ourselves
believe is perfect, missing no good thing--or perceived good thing.
But God created us just as he purposed to. We are wonderfully
and fearfully made. There is a purpose in everything and everyone’s
body styles, shapes, heights, weights, abilities and disabilities.
If God wanted us all to look alike, weigh the same, and have the
same abilities, he is powerful and almighty and it would have
been so if it was his will. We must begin to understand that our
thoughts are not his thoughts and our ways are not his ways.
Even in the area of size and weight, I believe that God has and
will use his people of size for his divine purpose. We might not
understand now, but I have long since said that "I believe
people of size are the chosen people! No other group suffers more
oppression, discrimination, set backs, ostracism, or alienation
than they!" |

My
Story. . .
My first vivid memory of being held accountable for my body
image occurred when I was a mere 10 years old. I can vividly recall
being chastised and reprimanded by my very concerned mother for
being “too big for my age”. The images of suffering
this stifled my creativity, self-confidence, and any sense of
self worth. The sense of shame that resulted from being overweight
became a life-long companion. In essence, I learned to become
a passenger of my body and watch it carry me from intense high
moments to extreme lows all attached to my weight.
It wasn’t until a few years ago that I realized that I
could take control of what society considered an out-of-control
and unattractive vehicle called my body. That is, I awoke from
a life long sleep induced by feelings of shame, guilt, failure,
lack of acceptance, and social alienation. It was at that moment
that being fat became a source of empowerment and strength. Since
then, I have made a commitment to myself and to society to give
back through my Radio Show “Size
Matters with Veronica” and "Size
Diversity” the Consulting Division. Now I am confident,
well adjusted, savvy and a professional woman of size! I learned
that the prize is not given to the swift, or the one that simply
perseveres; the prize is given to the one who defies all odds
and wins after all. To learn more about me please go to “About
Veronica” for a short professional profile. Otherwise,
please take a look at our workshops and presentations or listen
to this week’s featured Size Matters show online! |
